Maintenance Considerations
Ongoing performance, the level of servicing required and the total cost of ownership are key considerations when assessing any Nurse call system.
Manufacturer Support
A digital or hybrid Nurse call system can provide 99.999% reliability in normal operations but regardless, support from the manufacturer should be available and a clear process outlined.
Service Processes
An effective service process needs to be in place to suit your organisational needs and should be a factor when considering which manufacturers’ platforms with which to proceed.
Training
The level of training being provided to hospital personnel to empower them to manage issues that arise should also be considered, as this could be pivotal during a critical period. Alternatively, a Service Level Agreement should be in place to ensure technical staff is available to assist as required.
Support Tools
IP systems such as the hospital LAN are typically still looked after by the vendors and are heavily reliant on vendors to maintain them. A number of applications and devices are in place to keep the LAN working which includes; anti-virus, anti-spam, firewalls and back- up systems. These support tools require upgrading over time and often dedicated onsite support to keep the system running.
